Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the title advantage from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, lying 36 points Norris, finished in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he spun at the fourth corner soon after starting.
The Japanese lost control over the track edges before rotating through the escape zone, and was blessed to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the high-speed corner leading to the final corner on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in 19th place, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber in third, over half a second off the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
